Sue Ames
Lower School Principal
Sue Ames is an example of longevity on our teaching staff at Westminster Schools of Augusta. She has served Westminster for more than 18 years in various capacities. From 1982-1986, she was a teacher before taking time at home with her young children.
When she returned to Westminster in 1996, she spent three years working as the liaison between the administration and the Westminster Parents’ Club as the Parent Volunteer Coordinator. In 1999, she accepted a position to teach Kindergarten and served as the middle school basketball coach, in addition to her responsibilities with the Parents’ Club. Because of her strong relational skills she was soon asked to lead the college counseling initiative for juniors and seniors. For one year she served as the interim Principal and the Director of College counseling at the same time! Now, Mrs. Ames is currently beginning her fourth year as the Lower School Principal.
Mrs. Ames grew up in St. Louis and graduated from University of Missouri with a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood. After living in North Augusta for fifteen years, she now calls Augusta her home. Sue is a member of First Presbyterian Church and works in the second grade catechism class, at the Welcome Center and is involved in the parish ministry. She is married to Phil Ames and they have three children, Katie, Elisabeth and Caroline. After graduation from Westminster, all three children either attended UGA or are currently attending UGA.
