12th Grade College Preparation

 

SAT I is SAT Reasoning Test.  SAT II is SAT Subject Tests.

SEPTEMBER

  • Update brag sheet
  • Attend CSRA College Night at James Brown Arena
  • Approach teachers for recommendation letters.
  • Register for October and November SAT I, SAT II, or ACT.
  • Start narrowing down your choice of colleges.  Be sure to include a combination of safety, target, and stretch schools.

OCTOBER

  • SAT I and SAT II
  • ACT
  • Confirm all college application deadlines.
  • Follow up on letters of recommendation and transcripts to be sent with your applications.  This is your responsibility.
  • Concentrate on doing well in all your classes.  First semester senior year grades are very important to colleges.
  • Research scholarship and financial aid eligibility.
  • Register for December SAT I and SAT II.
  • Early action and early decision deadlines are due either October 1 or 15. Please check with Mr. McCallie for more details.

NOVEMBER

  • SAT I and SAT II
  • Early action and early decision deadlines are frequently due November 1 or 15.  Check.
  • Submit rolling admissions applications – the sooner, the better.
  • Keep working on January and February deadline applications.
  • Research scholarships offered by companies, parents’ employers, civic groups, etc.
  • Register for December ACT.

DECEMBER

  • ACT
  • Take the SAT I if you are still dissatisfied with your scores.
  • Begin free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and/or PROFILE financial aid form (if applicable) for January mailing; the earlier you file, the better chance of a larger grant.

JANUARY

  • Complete FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid).
  • Complete and mail financial aid applications.
  • Request that your college counselor send mid-year report to colleges that require them.
  • Continue to research scholarship information.
  • Pay close attention to financial aid deadlines.

FEBRUARY

  • Notify your college counselor if a college requests additional information in order to make a decision.
  • Check to make sure that colleges have received all materials: application, letters of recommendation, test scores, transcript, and financial aid forms.

MARCH

  • Notify your college counselor of all college acceptances.

APRIL

  • Review all college acceptance materials.  Pay attention to deposit deadlines, which are usually May 1.
  • Fill out housing forms.
  • Register for SAT II if needed for placement purposes at your college.

MAY

  • AP exams
  • Make final college selection.  Notify college counseling office for submission of final transcript.
  • Congratulations!  Time to graduate!
