Military Families

Augusta has been home to many military families during their time at Fort Gordon. Westminster welcomes military families during their time in Augusta and understands the transitional military lifestyle. We have been fortunate to be involved with Fort Gordon through our membership with the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) and enjoy honoring our military families at our annual Veterans Day assembly. Realizing that your family’s living experience in the Augusta area is unique, we have created this list of frequently asked questions to address many of the concerns you may have as a military family. If you have additional questions, please contact the admissions office at 706-731-5260, ext. 2250. Please let us know that you are a military family. Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an application deadline or will Westminster accept mid-year transfers?
We understand that you may relocate to our area during the current school year. We are flexible and are able to work with you as long as there are openings in the grade level your child is entering. Please contact us so we can help you complete the application process. Please specify you are a military family when you call.

How do I begin the application process?
Please call so that we can send you an admission packet and discuss the possibility of you visiting the school with your child. There are other options, such as Skype and FaceTime, if you are unable to visit onsite before moving. You will need to submit an application with a $75 fee that can be completed online. We also require transcripts, teacher recommendations and any standardized testing results. Middle School and Upper School students need to answer the essay questions provided on the application.

Where is Westminster located?
Westminster is conveniently located off the Wheeler Road and Walton Way Extension exits off of Interstate 20 and only 15 minutes from Gate 1 at Fort Gordon. Our campus is surrounded by quiet neighborhoods on 34 wooded acres. Westminster’s central location is convenient to many families no matter where you live in Augusta.

What makes Westminster distinctive?
Westminster has an open admissions policy that admits students representing any race, religion and national or ethnic origin. In addition, Westminster has a non-denominational Christian emphasis and integration of faith and learning across every discipline. Finally, Westminster provides a challenging college-preparatory academic program that strives toward excellence at all levels, holding the bar high for every student while offering the help necessary for each student to reach their goals.

Does Westminster assist in college counseling?
Westminster has a college counseling office with a full-time college adviser. As early as ninth grade, the college adviser does an outstanding job providing services to Westminster students in preparation for submitting college applications and applying for merit-based scholarships. Click here to see a list of the colleges and universities from which last year’s graduating class received acceptances. Westminster students have also applied and received acceptances from military academies.

Does Westminster have a history of enrolling military families, and may we contact a current military family?
Yes, we welcome and encourage military families to apply and enroll at Westminster during their stay in the Augusta area. We have many military families currently enrolled with us across all three school divisions. It would be our pleasure to put you in contact with one of our military families to discuss their Westminster experience.

Does Westminster provide financial aid, and what is the application process?
Each year, Westminster distributes approximately one million dollars in need-based financial aid. The average award for 2015-16 was $6,000. To learn more about our financial aid program, please click here.

Are there extra costs above the tuition fee?
There are some extra costs, like the one time $365 new family endowment fee and the $600 enrollment fee to reserve your child’s spot once you have completed the admissions process.  However, Westminster strives to include as many extra costs in the overall tuition as possible, such as books, field trips and outdoor classroom trips for Middle School students. Extra costs vary depending on the grade level. Some examples of extra costs include lunch, Extended Day programs, academic support costs if needed, AP tests and athletic spirit packs for Middle and Upper School. We will be happy to discuss this in more detail with you if you have questions..
