Westminster Honors Scholarship
The Westminster Honors Scholarship provides the Augusta area with prestigious academic scholarship awards for rising ninth-grade students. In the tradition of academic scholarships found at our finest universities, the Westminster Honors Scholarship intends to attract the most exceptional students from the CSRA to Westminster’s Upper School program. A well-established scholarship program helps to ensure the continuity of excellence within a school. The Westminster Honors Scholarship enhances Westminster’s tradition of excellence.
Several Westminster Honors Scholarships will be awarded each year to rising ninth-grade applicants. This award will cover half tuition and will be renewable each year to those scholarship recipients who maintain at least an 85 academic average.
To be eligible for scholarship consideration, a student must:
- be a new student to Westminster.
- be currently enrolled in eighth grade.
- be nominated by an adult outside the student’s family (i.e., a current or former teacher, school principal or guidance counselor, pastor, family friend, or Westminster alumnus/a).
- submit a complete application for admission.
- complete an on-campus interview and group testing.
The most competitive nominees will demonstrate an excellent academic record by their achievement of a strong grade point average throughout their middle school career and posting high standardized test scores. They often rank in the top 10 percent of their classes, maintain a numeric average of at least 85, and score in the top 15 percent of independent school norms on the Educational Records Bureau CTP-4 test.
Step 1: Apply for Admission
Nominees will be mailed an application packet after their nomination has been received in the Admission Office. All nominees must complete and return the application along with the $75 application fee by February 25, 2017. To be considered complete, an applicant’s file must include: a copy of the applicant’s most recent standardized testing, a school transcript including the first semester grades, recommendations from the applicant’s current English and math teachers, and a disciplinary record.
Step 2: Schedule a Campus Visit
All nominees are required to complete a campus visit on or before March 4, 2017.
Step 3: Apply for Financial Aid
All Honors Scholarship nominees may complete a need-based financial aid application. Some Honors Scholars will also receive need-based financial aid complementing their merit scholarship. Step 4: Complete Group Testing
All nominees are required to take the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) Comprehensive Testing Program (CTP-4). This group testing is administered on Westminster School’s campus on a Saturday in February (to be determined).
Step 5: Interview
All nominees are required to participate in an evaluation interview. These interviews will be conducted following the group testing on February 25. If a student completes testing on February 4, he/she will need to return on February 25 for the interview process.
Step 6: Notification
Notification of the Westminster Honors Scholarship recipient will be made by a phone call on March 24, 2017. All other nominees will be notified by mail.
