Westminster
has consistently offered strong music programs in both instrumental and vocal
areas. Whether you play in the band or sing in chorus, there are multiple
opportunities to perform.
Music Opportunities at Westminster
Intermediate Band: This band is for students in both the seventh and eighth
grades. The group will progress in all aspects of musicianship as well as
perform in regional festivals.
Chorale:
This high school choral group performs a wide variety of musical styles. The
group performs at local and church events as well as school concerts and
festivals. Vocal technique, diction, sight-reading skills, and balance/blend
will be emphasized.
Beginning Band: This sixth grade group covers the basics of musicianship and
technique. Band members begin on instruments in September and have the
opportunity of participating in regional activities as well as special school
functions. An emphasis will be placed upon performance as a band and as smaller
ensembles.
Middle
School Chorus: All middle school choral students from 6-8 grades make up
this group. A variety of styles are performed from classical to oldies to
contemporary pop music. This group will also participate in concerts and
festivals. An emphasis of basic technique will be introduced.
Literary: There are several areas of literary competition: piano, vocal
solos, girl's trio, and boy's quartet. These participants represent our school
on the local and state levels in the spring.
District
and All-State: These groups are statewide auditioned groups that perform in
Savannah in the spring. This event spans both private and public school sectors.
All students are encouraged to participate. The district level festivals are
held in Augusta.
