Westminster Fund FAQs

What is the Westminster Fund and where do its dollars go?

Whether it’s inside or outside of the classroom, the Westminster Fund helps Westminster live up to its mission. As is the case with fellow independent schools, the Westminster Fund is a yearly fundraising appeal to bridge the gap between the total cost of running the school and tuition revenue. Tuition alone cannot fund the entire cost associated with a private education at Westminster or any other independent school. Tuition only covers 91 percent of our school’s annual operating budget. Westminster relies on gifts to the Westminster Fund to raise a portion of the additional nine percent needed to sustain the school’s commitment to providing each student with the highest quality education possible.

How does a gift to the Westminster Fund differ from capital and endowment gifts?

Periodic appeals are made for specific needs, such as facility improvements or increases to endowment. These appeals are typical during a capital campaign. A capital or endowment gift will go towards Westminster’s future. The Westminster Fund is primarily used for current operations and is generally unrestricted.

I redirected my Georgia tax liability to Westminster through the GOAL Tax Credit Program. Can that count as my Westminster Fund gift?

No. While we appreciate you redirecting your state tax dollars for financial aid at Westminster, please note that a contribution to the GOAL Scholarship Program, designated to Westminster, cannot be counted as a gift to the Westminster Fund or Bridge Campaign.

How does your gift to the Westminster Fund attract support from outside organizations?

Corporations, foundations and other friends of Westminster look first at the voluntary support provided by Westminster’s community before deciding the level at which they will support our school. A high participation rate from Westminster’s community is critical. Every gift makes a difference, no matter the amount.
