Miss Buurma’s Fourth Grade Spreads the Gospel

This week, the students spread the Good News at Kentwood Nursing Home. They spoke to residents about the prayer bracelets that they made in class especially for residents.

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear

Mrs. Barfield’s Pre-K service learning project was “beary” fun! The students visited Build-A-Bear Workshop this week to make bears for local, hospitalized children. The students will deliver the bears next week. Photos of the outing can be found here.

“P” is for Puppy

On February 4, Margie, a puppy from the CSRA Humane Society, visited the TK classroom along with Megan McGahee, a Westminster senior and Humane Society volunteer. The class just studied the letter “P.” What better way to review the letter than to have a real puppy visit the classroom?

The students learned basic facts about taking care of a puppy like what they eat and potty training. The TK class adopted the CSRA Humane Society for their service learning project this year. This fall, they provided supplies to the shelter including collars, leashes, dog biscuits and blankets. Molly Drake and her family actually adopted a puppy that was brought to class in the fall of 2010.

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

Healthy smiles abounded in first grade as Mrs. Moccia’s class welcomed Melanie Stripling, a dental assistant student and mother of first grader Jacob Stripling. She talked to students about oral hygiene and demonstrated proper tooth brushing.
