Exchange Students Need Host Homes

Westminster has been involved with International Exchange (IE), a non-profit high school student exchange program, for 15 years.  Many of our school families have opened their homes and shared their American way of life with exchange students.   The school is looking for three Westminster families to share their homes and culture with a student from abroad for the 2010-2011 school year. We have two boys and one girl from Germany who need  a families to provide room, board, and a loving environment. For more information, please email mtebbs@wsa.net.

Black and White Day

The second graders celebrated Black and White Day on Friday, March 5.  This day marked the culmination of their unit on penguins and the completion of the novel, Mr. Popper's Penguins.  Students and teachers dressed in black and white, dined on fun black and white snacks, waddled instead of walk, and even did a "Penguin Role-Play," pretending to be penguins guarding their eggs while their mate went in search of food.  It was a fun-filled day with lots of penguin adventures!

Youth Leadership Conference at Westminster

On February 26 and 27, the annual Augusta Youth Leadership Conference sponsored by the Military Order of the World Wars was held on our campus.  More than 60 students from 16 area high schools gathered for this two-day conference.  Westminster’s own Caitlin Capps, Eric Speese and Ashley Strother were among those in attendance. The students heard from area business owners, political leaders and Mike Ryan, editorial page editor of The Augusta Chronicle.   More information on the conference is available in the March 2010 edition of Officer Review.  Westminster was pleased to host such a fine event.

Westminster's STAR Student Named

Congratulations to Robert MacDonell who has been named Westminster’s STAR Student! Robert has selected Randall Nichols as his STAR Teacher. The PAGE STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) program was created to focus public attention on Georgia’s outstanding students and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. To obtain the STAR nomination, students must have the highest score in one sitting on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) taken through the November test date of their senior year and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students in their class. Each high school STAR Student is asked to name his/her STAR Teacher.
