Lady Cats Claim 4th-Straight Garden City Classic Title

Westminster’s Lady Wildcats capped off the 3-day Garden City Classic tournament NOV 30 – DEC 2 with a 20-point victory in the finals over rival Augusta Prep, who also served as the host of the tournament.  The win represented WSA’s fourth-straight GCC tournament championship as the Lady Cats have now claimed the 2014, 2015, 2016, & 2017 tournament titles.

The win was also the Lady Cats’ 10th-straight win vs. their rivals.  The win did not go unappreciated by WSA Head Coach Greg Wilson.

“Coach Hunt and Coach Dukes got great effort out of their team as they played a little short-handed today,” said Wilson.  “I would look for them to make some noise once region play begins.”

APD fell behind by double-digits early but continued to whittle the lead back to single digits with several scoring runs in the second half before succumbing to foul trouble.

WSA was led by Ashley Davis and her 16 points.  Lizzy Cave and Bobbi Wardwell both scored 14 points apiece and Genevieve Waller notched 10 points.

The win placed the Lady Cats overall record at 6-2 as they head to Statesboro to take on Bulloch Academy at 6PM on DEC 5.

Davis was selected as the Garden City Classic’s MVP for the second straight year.  Wardwell was also chosen to the All-Tournament team, her third-straight All-Tournament selection.
