MS Wildcats Swim to 1st and 2nd Place
Winter Storm Inga sure didn’t make the splash it was expected to. The same cannot be said about Westminster swimmers! They came, they splashed around, and they conquered with some fast swimming! Our team could be heard around the pool, as sportsmanship and cheers were high.
Friday, Jan. 19, our JV and Varsity team competed at the Loganville Christian Academy swim meet in Madison, Georgia. This was a great last meet for some and for others this was their last meet before State next weekend.
Our JV team continues to outperform their competition! For many of our newest swimmers, they started this year or last from the very beginning. To finish the season with all four strokes down and legal starts and turns = significant accomplishments! To place 1st and 2nd overall = AWESOME! JV girls placed 1st and boys 2nd. We don’t have many boys, so that’s saying something! Kudos to the middle schoolers!
Everyone held their breath as Katelyn Dawkins won the 50 free after falling behind on a turn by a nail biting .01 seconds! There was great support from team mates, even during exhibition swims where our JV boys won by a landslide. Way to go Adam, Brock and Harrison! A special shoutout to Hannah and Lilly who were up early on a Saturday after the meet to get an extra practice in before State. Every. lap. makes. the. difference!
Varsity girls placed 6th and boys placed 4th! John David caught up from behind on our first relay, out touching an opponent for 3rd place. Ashlyn Dawkins came in 2nd in a grueling 200 IM and Elizabeth Rucker came from behind to get 3rd in the 50 free. With Bethany cheering him on, Sam Williamson qualified for state in the 100 breast.
Notice a theme? Making a comeback after falling behind. It takes diligence and plain old guts to stick it out and not give up. Make it a great week in your commitments to faith, friends and family, and schoolwork…working for the goal, no matter what. And wish a Wildcat swimmer good luck as they hustle this last week and compete at Georgia Tech Saturday, Jan. 27, for their State Meet!
