Senior Susan Yan named STAR Student

Congratulations to Westminster senior Susan Yan who was recently honored by the Kiwanis Club of Augusta at a luncheon on Monday, Feb. 12,  as one of two winners from Richmond County of the STAR Award. Susan selected Jordan Lambert as her STAR teacher.

The STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) program is a statewide initiative to recognize the highest achieving high school seniors and the educators who have made the biggest impact in their academic development. Each school nominates one student who must have the highest SAT score and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students in their class. The student then asks a teacher to join them. There were 12 finalists out of which Yan and one other student were named winners.

Yan is an international student from China who has attended Westminster since her freshman year. She said she is grateful to her parents for this opportunity and her teachers for helping her.

“She is so supportive and helpful throughout my high school career. She pushes me to go beyond my limits and see a broader world,” Yan wrote about Mrs. Lambert  for the banquet presentation.

“I’ve had Susan three out of her four years,” Lambert said. “She is so eager and up for anything. This is well-deserved.”

Yan plans to become an astrophysicist.
