Westminster hosts Department of Homeland Security

On Thursday, Jan. 18, Westminster Schools of Augusta hosted a visit by Noel Kyle, program manager from the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity Education and Awareness Branch. Ms. Kyle observed how cybersecurity education curriculum is being incorporated at Westminster’s Middle and Upper Schools.

Westminster is the first private school in Augusta to partner with the National Integrated Cyber Education Research Center (NICERC) to implement its curriculum. By involving middle and high school students in STEM and cybersecurity subjects, Westminster graduates are better prepared for college and the 21st-century workplace.

Ms. Kyle stressed to Westminster faculty and staff the importance of cybersecurity and STEM education, particularly at the secondary school level. She also emphasized that cybersecurity issues impact a number of fields and that there is a growing need for highly qualified professionals familiar with cybersecurity issues.
